A Perfect Pit-Stop

Cafe Castan is the ideal pit top to grab a drink, a spot of lunch or an ice cream. A friend and I decided to stop and have lunch while on a bike ride. The cafe is situated right by the car park of Llandaff fields and seem to be a popular choice. We parked our bikes up and ordered at the hatch. I chose a chicken caesar which was Β£6.50. The salad portion was perfect. It was a ideal choice for the hot day! There was lots of chicken which was shredded and spread around the salad which I liked. This was good compared to salads I have had in the past where I have received a chunky chicken breast. Although the chicken was a tad dry the balsamic vinegar salad dressing gave the salad a lovely flavour. The brown croutons were crunchy but not rock hard so enjoyable. Overall I really recommend the salad if you are stopping at Cafe Castan and want something light and tasty.

My friend chose the jacket potato with beans and cheese. They were very accommodating and on request made it with mozzarella cheese instead of cheddar. It came with a lovely side salad and was a good size portion overall. The skin was crispy and it was fluffy inside. My friend really enjoyed her meal.

In the past I have had ice cream from the cafe. They have a wide variety of flavours at a reasonable price. Also worth mentioning their chips are at a high standard, they helped me refuel me during a large pub crawl.

Cafe Castan is in a great location and brings a bit more life to Llandaff fields. Serving great homemade favourites, it is ideal if you forget your picnic, need a break from cycling or just want a cheeky ice cream!
